Harley Card, guitar/drums
Harley
Card has been an active musician, instructor, and composer for over
fifteen years. In 2006 Harley earned his Bachelor
in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto, and in 2003 he
earned a diploma in Applied Music from Mohawk College. He has taught at
Humber Community Music School, Bay View Glen Day School’s music program,
and continues to run his own teaching practice,
offering personalized instruction on both guitar and drums.
Over the years Harley has enjoyed teaching all levels and ages of
students, specializing in rock, jazz, folk, and pop.
Harley has taught as a guest clinician at the Thousand Islands Jazz
Festival, been an adjudicator at Funfest and Summerfest music
competitions, and been an examiner for the Ontario Teachers Guild.
As a performer, Harley is a mainstay in Toronto’s diverse music scene.
He has enjoyed many successful collaborations including;
being a member/composer for innovative Toronto ensembles; Hobson’s
Choice, God’s Gift To Yoda, Stoptime, and The Harley Card Quintet.
Harley is a four time recipient of The Ontario Arts Council’s Popular
Music Grant for recording, and in 2009, he was a
recipient of the Toronto Arts Council’s Music Creators and Composers
Grant. In 2008 Harley performed in Montreux, Switzerland, as a
semi-finalist in the 5th annual Gibson, Montreux Jazz festival guitar
competition.
